Da war die Senior Highschool gleich gegenüber dem Krankenhaus in dem wir untergebracht sind. Über 1000 Schüler. Balti hat wieder die Massen angezogen :-) und das Evangelium gepredigt.

Dann gings raus aus Kalkutta. 80 km in drei Stunden... kein Kommentar! Dort haben sie eine kleine Klinik, behandeln Arme und Bedürftige und wenn nötig werden diese auch ins Krankenhaus nach Kalkutta ueberwiesen.
And off we went out of Calcutta. 80km in three hours ... no comment! there they are running a small clinic for poor and needy people. If deemed necessary they are transferred to Calcutta hospital.
Und raus aus den Federn um 5:30 Uhr, denn um 6 Uhr gings los zum Speisungsprogramm.
7 Tage die Woche werden außerhalb von Kalkutta 6 verschiedene Plätze angefahren, an denen schon hunderte von Menschen mit ihren Behältern auf das Essen warten. In riesigen Töpfen werden somit täglich 25.000 Menschen mit einer warem Mahlzeit versorgt. Es war beeindruckend und zugleich erschreckend, wieviel Armut es in den umliegenden Dörfern von Kalkutta gibt. Die wenigsten verstanden mich (Petra), als ich versuchte, Hindi mit ihnen zu sprechen. Einfache Leute, die ihren eigenen Dialekt haben, und für die das Essen des Speisungsprogramms oft die einzige richtige Mahlzeit am Tag ist.
At 5.30am the alarm rings and at 6am we are on our way to the feeding program. 7 days a week they go to 6 different places outside of Calcutta longingly awaited by hundreds of people w/ vessels to bring the food home. Thus the food prepared in gigantic pots provides a warm meal for 25.000 people on a daily basis! It was both impressive and scary to see the severe poverty of the vincinities surrounding Calcutta. Only few would understand me (Petra) when I tried to address them in the official Hindi language. Simple people with their own dialect, for who the food of the feeding program oftentimes means the only warm meal a day.
"At the well" an der Quelle, die Frau am Brunnen... los gehts mit M. und S. ins Rotlichviertel und an den Howrah Bahnhof zu den Strassenkindern. Kanadische Missionare, die hier einen super Dienst machen. Es war toll mit den Kids und Frauen.
"At the Well", the woman at the well ... Off we are with M. and S. to the women of the redlight district and to the streetkids of Hworah station. Canadian missionaries are running a fantastic ministry in these places. We ahd a great time with the kids and women.
Und wieder gehts zu einer Schule. Wieder 1000 Schüler, die aber in zwei Schichten das Schulgebäude nutzen, was eigentlich ein Wohnhaus ist und nur als Schule benutzt wird. Aus Platzmangel haben 500 Schüler morgens Unterricht und 500 nachmittags. Auf dem Bild die Direktorin... die hat auch gut was zu tun!
And here we go again - another school, another 1000 students who are using the buidling, which actually is a residential home just used as a school, in two shifts. because of lack of space 500 students are in school in the morning and the other 500 in the afternoon. With us in the picture the directress who does have a busy job indeed.
Eigentlich sollten wir morgen, Mittwoch nach Darjeeling hochfahren. Doch Steven ist krank geworden und liegt hier im Krankenhaus auf Station, ein paar Zimmer neben uns. Nichts beunruhigendes, einfach eine starke Virusinfektion indischer Art. Es geht ihm nun schon besser, seidem er Antibiotika intravenös bekommt. Montag sollte er wieder fit sein und somit haben wir unsere Abfahrt verlegt. Bitte betet doch mit dafür, dass er dann auch wirklich mitfahren kann. Wir wären dann nur vier Tage in Darjeeling, doch wir empfinden dennoch dort hin zufahren, auch wenn es eine lange Fahrt mit dem Nachzug ist.

According to our schedule we were suppose to leave for Darjeeling on Wedensday. Steven got sick though and is confined in the hospital just a few rooms away from ours. Nothing serious, just an ordinary though insisting typical Indian viral infection. He's much better after taking antibiotics intravenously. Since he should be ok by Monday we've postponed our deprature. Please pray that he can really join then. This means only 4 days in Darjeeling but we still think it to be right to go there, even though it takes a long journey on the night train to get there.
